I purchased a Ashley 76" grandfather Clock from a friend serial number 244938 7/14/1981. I set up the weights and they are at the top of the clock but the clock does not work. How do I know if the the clock is over wound or not wound at all?
It is very difficult to over wind a clock and even if you managed to, the clock would be obviously damaged as many parts would have to bend out of shape to over wind the clock. If the weights are all of the way up then the clock should be working just fine.
It sounds like there is something damaged in the clock that may be causing the clock to remain stuck. We recommend that you get a local professional to visit and take a look, that way they can diagnose and repair on the spot if possible. A local Google search for a clock technician may give you a great local tech who would be able to help you!
We hope this helps!
